The replacement of the popular N40L is here. Meet the HP ProLiant G7 N54L (704941-421) which is on sale at Ebuyer for a mere £230 (that’s an initial price of £280 with a £50 cash back from HP).
Note that this microserver – which uses the same chassis as its predecessor - doesn’t come with an operating system but you will be well served by the Microsoft Windows Home Server 2011, which is on sale at Ebuyer for a mere £33.99.
The device has four internal bays and one front accessible 5.25in one. It is powered by a dual-core AMD Turion II Neo N54L processor clocked at 2.2GHz with 2MB L2 cache.
Other features include 2GB DDR3 ECC RAM expandable to 8GB, a 250GB SATA drive (expandable to 16TB), integrated AMD video system, a 150W PSU, a 22dBa noise level, and support for RAID-0 and RAID-1.
Expansion capabilities include a PCIe x1 slot, another PCIe x 16 slot, six USB ports, a VGA port, a GbE NIC connector and an eSATA-300 port.
You can check out the previous generation of HP microservers here. It is really a shame though that HP has hiked the price of this device which, at some point, was available for just over £100 after cash back.
