Groupon sells the Asus X401A on behalf of Ebuyer for £249.99, a price that includes free delivery. The laptop is slightly thicker and heavier than your average Ultrabook (at 1.85Kg and 26.5mm thick) and unfortunately, its hardware components are no match for those of true (albeit more expensive) Ultrabooks.
The laptop runs on a dual-core Intel Pentium B960 processor, a model with two cores, 2MB cache and clocked at 2.2GHz. There’s also an HM70 Express chipset and an onboard Intel HD Graphics that powers the 14in 1,366 x 768 LCD Backlit display.
The rest of the features include Windows 7 Home Premium, 4GB of RAM, Altec Lansing speakers, a massive 750GB hard disk drive, three USB ports (including a USB 3.0 one), VGA/HDMI ports, Wi-Fi, a card reader and island-style keyboard.
The X401A comes with temperature-controlled palm rests and thanks to Asus’ proprietary technology also offers a two-second instant resume from hibernation or sleep. This model is part of part of Asus’ new range of affordable thin-and-light laptops that will eventually replace bigger, bulkier devices.
