Sony Xperia U smartphone now available from £99 at Asda

Check out the Sony Xperia U smartphone from Asda, which is currently on sale for as little as £99 with free standard delivery. The device costs £122 but you can bring that down to £99 thanks to the voucher code “xperiau23”. The device is the first brand new, dual-core Android handset that is on sale for under £99 and it is exceptionally good value for what it offers.

There’s a 3.5in 854 x 480 pixel screen with “Reality Display” technology and powered by the Mobile BRAVIA engine, which delivers the best pixel density south of £200. Also in the package is a dual-core STEricsson U8500 Novathor SoC clocked at 1GHz (the same as the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini).

Other features include 512MB of RAM, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, 4GB onboard storage (but no microSD card slot), a five megapixel camera with full HD video recording, a colour-changing transparent element that may or may not appeal to users and up to 10 hours battery life.

Note that the phone is locked to O2 and that unfortunately an upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, although possible is highly improbable. You can read our review of the Sony Xperia U smartphone here.
