UK mobile phone operator is currently selling the Alcatel One Touch Evo 7 tablet and the Alcatel One Touch 903 smartphone on a two year contract for as little as £15 per month plus an upfront cost of £39.99. The non 3G version of the tablet carries an upfront fee of £9.99
That’s a total cost of ownership of £370 and the plan includes 250MB data, 300 minutes and 5000 texts. Add £5 per month and you can get 1000 minutes, 5000 texts and all-you-can-eat data. The phone is also available for £11 on a package which comes with 100 minutes, 250MB data and 5,000 texts.
The handset is an entry level Android device that runs on v2.3 Gingerbread which means that in theory, you should be able to tether from it to the tablet (although that may actually break the terms and conditions).
The OT903 is powered by a MediaTek MTK6573 SoC, a single-core ARM11 SoC clocked at 650MHz. It comes with 128MB of RAM, 140MB storage and a microSD card slot. Other features include a 2.8in 320 x 240 pixel capacitive display, a 2-megapixel camera and a 1,300 mAh battery. Three sells the phone on PAYG for £50.
As for the tablet, it is a 7in model with a 1,024 x 600 pixels display, a single core Rockchip RK2918 SoC clocked at 1GHz and based on the A8 architecture, a front-facing VGA camera, Android 4.0.3 ICS, 1GB of RAM, 4GB onboard storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, a microSd card slot, a microUSB connector and a 4,160mAh battery.
