Mobiles.co.uk, a subsidiary of Carphone Warehouse, is selling the Nokia Lumia 520 Windows Phone 8 smartphone for as little as £94.95 plus an extra compulsory £10 top-up, on O2 (note that you can get 100 free international minutes when you top up £15 and stil keep your credit).
The handset – which is available in white or blue – is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC clocked at 1GHz, the MSM8230 and boosts some other features rarely found on sub-£100 smartphones. It has 512MB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage expandable to 72GB (via a microSD card), a 4in 800 x 480 pixel display that is super sensitive (i.e. you don’t have to remove your gloves to use it).
There’s also a 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording, 3G, Wi-Fi, a 1,430mAh battery, GPS, Bluetooth, nearly 10 hours battery life plus an array of Nokia applications like Nokia Music, Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive.
The only other competition that’s remotely near is the Huawei Ascend W1 which costs £120 with a £10 top-up from O2.
Unlike the Nokia handset though, Huawei’s locked to the mobile phone network. You can read the review of the Nokia Lumia 520 Windows Phone 8 smartphone here.
