Samsung says that it was inspired by the concept of a “canvas on an easel” when desining the S9, an UHD LED TV with an impossibly thin bezel and four panel speakers plus a 3-way sound system with a total nominal power of 120W.
The television set is available exclusively from Selfridges for £34,999 (excluding delivery) on preorder. You will have to for almost two months though before the device is shipped (by which time, one can expect it to be available from other vendors as well).
The S9 – which is known in the US as the UB85S9 - has a massive 85in LCD panel with a 3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution (that’s more than eight million pixels altogether) and can upscale HD or full HD content to UHD via a quad-core Exynos SoC based on the Cortex-A15 architecture and clocked at 1.35GHz.
The rest of the specification includes a retractable built-in camera, three USB ports, two Freeview HD or Freesat HD tuners, four HDMI ports, Wi-Fi, MHL, Digital audio out and legacy connectors. Note that the device is also 3D compatible and comes with four active 3D glasses.
Others might prefer the Sony KD-84X9005 which is slightly less expensive than the S9 at £25,000. It also comes with a slightly smaller screen diagonal and a more traditional design.
