T-Mobile is selling a smartphone called the Beat for £5 on pay as you go with an extra compulsory £20 top up which gives you either 100 free UK minutes, unlimited free texts for a month or 70 free international minutes. In all three cases, the top up remains intact.
In comparison, Amazon sells it for £24.99. You should be able to use it on Orange, EE and Virgin Media as well.
The smarphone itself is a surprisingly capable device that comes with a full QWERTY keyboard that’s reminiscent of entry level BlackBerry smartphones like the Curve. It does even come with a touchscreen display (resistive), has a 3.2-megapixel camera (without flash), a microSD card slot, 3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and even an FM Radio.
Other features include up to five days stand-by time plus talk time of up to 270 minutes as well as dedicated Twitter and Facebook apps. The phone is also known as the Orange Hollywood.
It is likely that T-Mobile is looking to clear out existing stocks of that smartphone, which is manufactured by ZTE. If you are looking for an entry level model, it is hard to beat indeed.
