Could it spell the end of the ATIV S (and point to the launch of another Windows Phone 8 from Samsung)? Expansys has announced that the Samsung ATIV S smartphone is now available from £270. That’s a far cry from its previous suggested retail price of £499.
The Samsung ATIV S was unveiled last year at IFA in Germany at the same time as the Windows 8 range from Samsung and the Galaxy Note 2. It was and still remains the only Windows Phone 8 smartphone from the Korean Chaebol.
Like the rest of the high end smartphones running Windows Phone 8 (HTC Windows Phone 8X and Nokia Lumia 920), the ATIV S runs on an dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz. It has a 4.8in 1,280 x 720 pixel Super AMOLED display covered with Corning Gorilla 2, 1GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a rear 8-megapixel camera with a front-facing 1.9-megapixel one, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth 3.0, NFC, Wi-Fi, a 2,300mAh battery and a brushed aluminium chassis.
In essence, this smartphone is the equivalent of the Samsung Galaxy S3 with a different processor and operating system. Check out our review of the Samsung ATIV S smartphone here.
