£380 Acer V3-571G laptop: Core i3 and dedicated graphics card

Head over eBay and Dabs' outlet to catch a glimpse of the Acer Aspire V3-571G laptop, one that costs £380 with free delivery and 379 Nectar points. This is a brand new model that comes with one year warranty.

The V3-571G comes with a third-generation Intel Core i3 processor, the i3-3110M, which is clocked at 2.4GHz and has two cores and 3MB L3 cache. Other features include Windows 8, 6GB of RAM (up to a maximum of 8GB), a dedicated Nvidia Geforce GT30M with 1GB of RAM, a 500GB hard disk drive, a webcam, Bluetooth 4.0, HDMI, a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display (called CineCrystal by Acer), a DVD writer, HDMI port, GbE, Wi-Fi (served by a Broadcom 43228 controller) and up to four hours battery life thanks to a 6-cell 48Whr battery.

The laptop weighs around 2.6Kg, is 33mm thick, has a card reader and also features Dolby Home theater v4. As expected, there's also a dedicated numeric keypad, a multi-gesture touch pad and what Acer calls a "Finetip" keyboard.

Though it is only slightly heavier than an Ultrabook, it is significantly thicker. In addition, we're resolutely opposed to bundling a 15.6in display with a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution in an era where even a mainstream smartphone has a 1,280 x 800 pixels one.
