John Lewis sells the Panasonic Viera TX-P50X60B plasma television for £459, a price that includes delivery and five year warranty. This is a 50in set and the only major corner cut is the fact that it doesn't support full HD. In fact it can only do 720p.
However, before slating the TX-P50X60B, it's worth mentioning that if you watch terrestrial TV the most and are not avid of console gaming (PS3 or Xbox 360) then this set makes perfect sense and, in many case, its picture quality will surpass even more expensive displays.
What's more, it comes with a Freeview HD tuner built in. Other features include two HDMI slots, a USB port, a SCART socket, V-Audio Pro Surround Sound technology powering two 10W speakers, a 600Hz frame rate and a "B" rating when it comes to Energy Efficiency (it consumes 240W when switched on).
At this price you'll forgive it for not including Smart TV capabilities (although you should be able to get that if you use one of those nifty little HDMI dongles), DLNA or even a few extra HDMI ports. As for the looks, well, this one is as conservative as it gets with a boring looking stand and a rather thick bezel.
