Morgancomputers sells the Asus X53E laptop for a mere £400 plus an extra £7 shipping. This is a refurbished device that comes with a 12-month warranty and all the necessary accessories.
What sets apart this laptop from the rest of similarly-priced notebooks is the fact that it comes with an Intel Core i7-2670QM processor, one that is clocked at 2.2GHz, has four cores and 6MB cache.
Although it is a second-generation (Sandy Bridge) processor, it is certainly one of the fastest sub-£400 laptops on the market today. This also means that some corners may have been cut and while this is unfortunately the case, nothing prevents you from actually upgrading these parts.
There's 4GB system memory (part of which is shared with the Intel HD 3000 graphics GPU), a 320GB hard disk drive, a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display, Windows 7 Home Premium, an optical drive, HDMI, a dedicated numeric keypad plus Asus' IceCool technology which allow the laptop to cool more effectively using an array of heat pipes and vents.
Asus claims that this laptop has a battery life of around 3.5 hours which is fairly unimpressive.
