One can blame the latest round of price cuts on the Samsung Ativ S on the aggressive pricing strategy from competitors (Nokia and HTC) or on the impending arrival of a new range.
You can now pick up Samsung's one and only Windows Phone 8 handset from Expansys for a mere £240, that's a 52 per cent discount off its original suggested selling price of £499. It comes with free delivery and is unlocked.
The Ativ S is essentially a Samsung Galaxy S3 with Windows Phone 8 OS instead of Android. Other than that major difference, Samsung swapped the plastic chassis for one with a brushed aluminium finish and the quad-core Exynos SoC for a dual-core Qualcomm model clocked at 1.5GHz.
The rest of the specification is roughly on par with its Android alterego. 4.8in Super AMOLED display with 1,280 x 720 pixel display? Checked. 8-megapixel rear camera with a front facing 2-megapixel one? Checked. 16GB onboard storage, 1GB of RAM and a microSD card slot? Checked. Being able to combine 2,300mAh battery with a chassis thickness of only 8.9mm? Checked.
