Evernote Reminders rolls a to-do list into the note-taking application, combining Evernote's three most-requested features into one package.
Freshly launched, Evernote Reminders moves in-app and email alarms, quick notes based on to-do lists, and pinning notes to the top of the note list.
"For the millions of people around the world that use Evernote everyday to achieve their goals, we're excited to announce a new part of Evernote that will keep you on track every step of the way," Andrew Sinkov, vice president of marketing for Evernote, said in a blog post.
To add a Reminder in Evernote, just tap the alarm clock icon located at the top on Mac and the Web, or on the bottom for iPhone and iPad. If you are so inclined, you can also set a date and time for when the noted task must be completed.
An in-app alarm, complete with mobile push notifications, will sound when the Reminder is due. Users can also opt to receive an email alert on the same day.
Built with organisation in mind, the new feature is notebook-based, meaning that whenever a new Reminder is added to a note, it will also appear in the Reminder section of that notebook.
"By associating Reminders with notebooks, we're able to do some really cool stuff," Sinkov said. Since Reminders show up at the top of a given notebook, they also highlight the most important notes in that notebook. "It's like creating a quick table of contents for your visitors," he added.
Within an Evernote notebook list, users can reorder their memos by dragging them up or down, and once a particular task has been completed, check them off to make room for new assignments. Anyone with access to your notebooks can subscribe to be notified when notes are due.
Reminders sync across all versions of the app that support the new feature, so if you set a Reminder on the Web, you will also be notified on-the-go on your iPhone or iPad. All of Evernote's new features are also available for Evernote Business users.
Sinkov and the Evernote team have been testing Reminders for a few weeks and have come up with a few suggestions for users to try out, such as birthday gifts (clip gift ideas for family and friends, then add a Reminder for a week before the person's birthday); project planning (keep a running list of ongoing projects and their completion dates); packing (create a packing list and set a Reminder for a few hours before the trip); doctor's orders (write a list of questions to cover with a physician and receive a Reminder alert before your visit).
This is only the beginning for Evernote Reminders, according to Sinkov.
"We're far from finished. We have big plans to expand the functionality, and to bring it to more platforms in the very near future," he said.
The Reminders feature is currently available on Evernote for Mac, iOS, and Evernote Web.
