£200 Compaq CQ58-261SA 15.6" Windows 8 Laptop

Check out this Compaq CQ58 laptop from Currys which has been discounted from £330 to a mere £199.97. You can only get it instore though and not online as it is part of a big clearance sale being carried out by the high street retailer.

What makes this device peculiar is that it packs a number of features found on laptops 30 per cent more expensive. These include Windows 8, an Intel Celeron B830 processor (clocked at 1.8GHz with two cores and 2MB L3 cache), 4GB system RAM and a 750GB hard disk drive.

The rest of the specification is mostly what you'd expect from a sub-£300 laptop. A 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display, an Intel HD Graphics subsystem, a DVD writer, three USB ports, a card reader, a LAN port, Wi-Fi, VGA and HDMI ports, a TrueVision HD webcam, a 6-cell Li-Ion battery, a touchpad but alas! No dedicated numeric keypad.

The Compaq CQ58 weighs in a hefty 2.45Kg and is 31mm thick is which twice the thickness of some Ultrabooks on the market. HP has also bundled a few of its own applications like HP Connected Music, HP Connected Photo, HP Connected ePrint and HP Games.
