USB-powered hard disk drives reach new lows: 1TB Toshiba for £49.49 & 1.5TB WD for £71.99

If you are after a high capacity external hard disk drive that can be powered by USB, then check out those two offers by online retailer Dabs. The BT-owned company is offering a 10 per cent discount off the retail price of either products until 31 May when you type in the voucher code MEGA10A at check out.

The first one is the WD Elements with a 1.5TB capacity (that's the WDBBJH0015BBK-EESN) that carries a post-rebate price of £71.99. It sports a conservative black design with a USB 3.0 interface, two year warranty, a weight of 240g and a thickness of only 23mm. it has a per GB cost of just under 4.8p.

The other one is the 1TB Toshiba Store.E Basics, otherwise known as the HDTB110EK3BA, one that weighs a mere 170g, has a matte black finish and is only 17mm thick. It costs £49.49 and carries a cost per GB of 4.95p. Note that neither products come with delivery.

It's worth noting that there are 2TB 2.5in hard disk drives on the market although they do carry a significant price premium and they are thicker than their 9.5mm counterparts. Furthermore, it is useful to consider getting a 2.5in drive if you intend to use it to increase the storage capacity of your Sony Playstation 3 gaming console.
