Online retailer Merimobiles is selling the ZTE Grand S, otherwise known as the V988 for $620, a price that can be cut down till the end of June by four per cent thanks to a voucher code (MOE), bringing the final outlay to the equivalent of around £370.
There were rumours that the phone would not be ready till later this year (by which time it would be a mainstream model) but that doesn't appear to be the case as the ZTE Grand S is already shipping.
The handset is ZTE's top of the range smartphone and has almost the same specification as Sony's Xperia Z albeit sans 4G capabilities. It does has a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon APQ SoC clocked at 1.7GHz, 2GB of RAM, a 13-megapixel camera, 16GB onboard storage, a 5in 1,920 x 1,080 pixel, a microSD card slot, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a front-facing 1.7-megapixel camera and a 1,780mAh battery.
While it doesn't have any of Sony's lifeproof properties, it is a good deal thinner than its rival. That said, it is a bit expensive to our taste, given that you can get the Xperia Z for not a lot more.
