Deal: £300 Acer Liquid S1 phablet goes on preorder

Acer says that its latest device, the Liquid S1 smartphone, "greatly enhances mobile productivity and entertainment" (although we cringe when it says that it "deliver a premium, minimalist design, ideal for assertive businesspeople and passionate explorers").

This phablet joins the ranks of the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, the Samsung Galaxy Mega series as well as a slew of other big-screen designs from the likes of Huawei, ZTE, Kogan and others.

The Acer S1, which has yet to be officially launched in the UK, can be preordered already from Expansys for £300, which it one of the more affordable phablets on the market. It comes with a quad-core Mediatek MTK6589 SoC clocked at 1.5GHz and based on the Cortex-A9 architecture.

The rest of the technical details include Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, 1GB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, a 5.7in 1,280 x 720 pixel display, an 8-megapixel camera, full HD video recording, a front-facing 2-megapixel one, Bluetooth 3.0, Wi-Fi (including 802.11ac), a 2,400mAh battery and Acer's own user interface.
