Cork, Ireland-based startup Trustev has emerged victorious from an initial field of 300 entrants and taken gold in the European Commission's Tech All Stars competition.
Trustev was announced as the winner at the exclusive Founders Forum event in London, beating EcoChain and Snap Fashion in the grand final.
All three finalists win €10,000 (£8,500) worth of Amazon Web Services, as well as enjoying access to the Founders Forum entrepreneur networking event.
Selected by a panel of judges as the best of the best, Trustev will now step into the spotlight at the EC's Digital Agenda Assembly next week, to be held in Dublin.
So what marked Trustev out from the crowd?
Trustev provides a real-time online identity verification service based on its proprietary Social Fingerprint technology for use as part of front-end secure transaction processing.
The Social Fingerprint is created by drawing on an individual's interactions across a range of leading social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn, as well as utilising locational data analysis.
So, presumably if you're always tweeting about the perks of the creative life in Shoreditch but then attempt to buy an expensive watch for collection in West Lothian, the transaction may be flagged.
Founded in 2012, Trustev completed an initial seed round earlier in the year to the tune of some $300,000 (£192,000). After this Tech All Stars win, we'd expect its next bout of investment to feature considerably heftier sums.
