New Apple MacBook Air goes on sale at John Lewis for £849 with three year warranty

Highly regarded UK retailer John Lewis sells the new Apple MacBook Air, the MD711B/A, for £849. The offer comes with three year warranty plus an option to get six months John Lewis broadband for free (although you still have to pay for line rental).

The new Apple MacBook Air was unveiled last week during the opening Keynote in San Francisco by the company's CEO, Tim Cook. The most notable feature of the device is the new Haswell processor that powers it, one which should provide it with even more firepower while sipping even less resources.

The Core i5 processor is a dual-core model running at 1.3GHz (that can TurboBoost to 2.6GHz) with an Intel HD Graphics 5000 graphics subsystem. Other features include 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, a 11.6in 1,440 x 900 pixel display, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, two speakers, Mac OS X Mountain Lion, a HD webcam and up to nine hours battery life.

Despite packing all these features, the device is surprisingly thin at 17mm and light at 1.08Kg, and still sets the baseline against which other ultra-thin devices are measured. Check out our review of the Apple MacBook Air (late 2013 version) here.
