Check out the Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 laptop from Amazon. It is currently on sale there for £599 with free delivery and in comparison, Ballicom sells it for just under £850.
Lenovo says that the device is 25 per cent slimmer than a standard notebook and comes with a tactile soft-touch exterior as well as "specialized stereo speakers with Dolby Home Theatre v4 audio certification for immersive sound".
The rest of the configuration is pretty impressive for what it offers. A quad-core Intel Core i7-3630QM processor clocked at 2.4GHz, 8GB of RAM, 1TB hard disk drive, a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display, a DVD writer, USB 3.0 ports, an Nvidia Geforce GT750 GPU with a whopping 2GB of RAM, Windows 8 and a 62Whr battery.
The Chinese manufacturer also included Lenovo's Energy Management 7.0 system, Lenovo's own Cloud service with 5GB of free storage plus Lenovo Content, VeriFace technology that allows the user face to be used as an alternative to the traditional password plus an intelligent touchpad.
The icing on the cake is the fact that the Z500 comes with a touch display, one that may well swerve a few towards it.
