Deal: £198 Archos FamilyPad 2 13.3in tablet

Archos unveiled this FamilyPad 2 tablet earlier this year as the French company tried to introduce the concept of a family-focused tablet. The product however doesn't seem to be a blockbuster as online retailer Dabs is currently selling it for just under £200, a significant discount off its official selling price and helped by a £20 discount that ends on Sunday (you will need to enter PAYPAL20 at checkout).

The unique selling point of the FamilyPad 2 is its massive 13.3in 1,280 x 800 pixel display that is powered by Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as well as a dual-core Rockchip RK3066 system-on-chip clocked at 1.6GHz.

Other features include 1GB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, HDMI and USB ports, 2-megapixel front and rear cameras, a battery that can power it for up to 10 hours and a weight of 1.3Kg, which is more than twice that of Apple's iPad tablet.

The FamilyPad 2 remains an interesting concept but beyond its niche appeal, one has to wonder what other advantages it offers compared to similarly configured tablets like the Archos 80 Cobalt for example.
