Deal: £216 Asus Memo Tab Smart ME301T Android tablet

Online retailer Dabs sells the Asus Memo Pad Smart ME301T Android-based tablet for £216 after a £20 discount when you enter the code PAYPAL20 at check out. The ME301T is essentially a bigger, more expensive version of the Google Nexus 7 with three essential upgrades.

It has a card reader, a rear 5-megapixel camera and a microHDMI port. The rest is the Google Nexus 7 all over again; there's a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, a 10.1in 1,280 x 800 pixel display, Bluetooth 3.0, a front-facing camera, up to 8.5 hours battery life, Wi-Fi and a microUSB port.

Asus included its own SonicMaster sound technology as well as a lifetime subscription to its cloud-based web storage service called WebStorage (but only for 3GB). At 580g and with a 10mm thickness it is a bit chubby compared to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.

Expect a whole raft of new Android tablets to come to the market as system-on-chip manufacturers pump out new designs based on the smaller (and therefore cheaper) Cortex-A7 designs.
