John Lewis cuts price of Surface RT tablet to £275

The price of Microsoft's Surface RT tablet has been cut from £399 to £279 and the best place to buy it right now is at John Lewis where you can get an additional one year warranty (and you can return it for free if you don't like it). Microsoft's first non x86-based Windows operating system for more than a decade is only available on Qualcomm and Nvidia system-on-chips and the Surface RT model runs on the latter.

The quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 SoC that powers the tablet is clocked at 1.3GHz. Other features include a 10.6in touch display with a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, a 9.4mm thickness, a VaporMg chassis finish, an integrated kickstand, front and rear LifeCam cameras, 2GB of RAM, 32GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, a full-size USB port and up to eight hours battery life.

As for Windows RT, Microsoft has already announced that a major update will be coming before the end of the year. Perhaps the most important new feature will be the arrival of Outlook on the bundled Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 RT package.
