Deal: Samsung ATIV Book 9 Lite laptop goes on preorder for £499

If you don't mind the headline-grabbing touchscreen capabilities of the Samsung ATIV Book 9 lite, then check out its cheaper alternative, one that doesn't offer touch but is also £100 cheaper at £499 at online retailer Very. The device is set to go on sale on 14 August.

Weighing a mere 1.4Kg and 17mm thick, the ATIV Book 9 Lite is a real credit to AMD and shows that Intel processors are not essential to build a capable thin and light Ultrabook-like device.

This Samsung device runs on an AMD A6-4400M APU clocked at 1.6GHz with an AMD Radeon HD 7250G GPU, 4GB of RAM, a 128GB SSD, a 13.3in display with a 1,366 x 768 pixel resolution, a 1.3-megapixel HD webcam, a card slot, up to nine hours battery life, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, two USB ports, HDMI and a weight of 1.44Kg.

As expected, it comes with the SideSync feature which allows your Galaxy smartphone to interact seamlessly with your PC but doesn't come with the dual-booting capabilities. Samsung also offers a quick book speed of up to eight seconds and a Fast Start from Sleep mode of only two seconds. Feel free to continue reading our Samsung Ativ Book 9 Lite: hands-on preview here.
