Check out this 960GB SSD from Crucial, the M500, otherwise known as the CT960M500SSD1, which is available from Ebuyer for £450. That's just under 47p per GB, which is not the cheapest for an SSD, but a very decent price for a SSD of that capacity.
The component's specifications are as follows. Sequential read/write speeds of 500MBps and 400Mbps respectively. A 4K random read of 80KIOPS, MLC NAND flash memory, a Marvel 80SS9187 controller with Micron firmware, a 2.5in form factor, 7mm thick, SATA 6Gbps, a "total bytes written" capacity of 72TB (around 40GB per day for five years) plus three year warranty.
One can only wonder the performance levels a pair of those would reach in a workstation, configured as RAID-0. The only concern is the TBW, which means that it won't necessarily be suitable for a 24/7/365 working environment with frequent writes. For more read Crucial M500 480GB SSD preview here.
