Riverbed Technology has announced it is bolstering its Steelhead WAN optimisation product family.
Improvements include updating the Riverbed Optimisation System (RiOS) software to version 8.5, as well as the addition of a new hardware appliance, Steelhead CX 255.
According to Riverbed, the upgrades will help it better cater to increasingly diverse enterprise infrastructures and take into account the rapid adoption of cloud applications, rich media applications and distributed business-critical applications.
New features in RiOS 8.5 include the introduction of path selection, which is intended to simplify the management of hybrid MPLS and Internet networks.
RiOS 8.5 will also see improved integration with Riverbed Cascade Profiler - the firm's native network performance management solution - as well as new optimisations for a range of business-critical applications, including Microsoft SharePoint 2013, Exchange 2013 and Office 365, plus NetApp's SnapMirror.
Steelhead CX 255, in turn, will offer bandwidth capacity of up to 6Mbps and is intended to provide smaller branch offices with the same quality hardware solution available to larger enterprise outposts.
"It is critical for us to rapidly adopt new technologies that help us to reduce costs, boost productivity, and enhance collaboration. By delivering accelerated performance cost efficiently across our entire infrastructure, Riverbed WAN optimisation is at the heart of our ability to improve both the way and pace that our employees work," commented Ray Sirois, IT director at infrastructure engineering services specialist Wright-Pierce.
Riverbed told us that RiOS 8.5, Cascade Profiler 10.0.7, and Steelhead CX series 255 appliances are scheduled for general release in Q3 2013.
