Samsung invite teases launch of new Galaxy Note 3 phablet and Gear smartwatch at IFA

Samsung has started distributing special invitations for an event on 4 September, fuelling rumours of an impending Galaxy Note 3 launch.

The big event, titled 'Samsung Unpacked 2013: Episode 2' (the first episode took place earlier this year, and produced the Galaxy S4) will take place in Berlin two days before IFA 2013 kicks off.

Immediately noticeable is the tagline 'Note the date' and the fact that everything on the invite appears scribbled, bringing to mind the Galaxy Note phablet's characteristic S Pen stylus.

The Galaxy Note 3, if the rumours are true, will feature a 5.7in full HD 1,920 x 1,080 display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a Snapdragon 800 processor. Also on board will be 3GB of RAM and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy Note 2, which earned an ITProPortal Best Buy Award, was the IFA 2012 headline act for Samsung, so the gossip isn't too much of a surprise.

Also hot on the world's lips is talk of the launch of a new Android smart watch, called the Samsung Gear.

This would represent Samsung's first foray into the wearable tech segment, and would also mean the South Korean giant beating Apple's much-rumoured iWatch - which many expected to launch at WWDC in June - to market.

Samsung first confirmed its development of a hi-tech watch back in March. "We've been preparing the watch for so long," VP of mobile business Lee Young Hee said at the time. "We are preparing products for the future, and the watch is definitely one of them."

According to SamMobile, the wrist-bound device will pack Android 4.3 and a clock speed of 2.3GHz.

Whatever happens, ITProPortal will be in attendance, so stay tuned for further news as soon as it emerges.
