Deal: £230 Samsung Galaxy Win i8552 quad-core smartphone

We're still quite unsure whether to consider the Samsung Galaxy Win i8552 as a mainstream smartphone or an entry-level one. The price at which it is currently sold at e_cell on eBay (£230 with 230 Nectar points), leaves no space for doubt. This is an expensive mainstream handset.

Yet look at the configuration and you might start to wonder. True, it uses a quad-core system-on-chip, but it is a model that is based on the Cortex-A5 architecture, possibly the MSM8225Q clocked at 1.2GHz, which means that it will possibly fare worse than a single core Cortex-A9 on single thread or unoptimised applications.

Then there's the display, which stands at 4.7in but has a resolution of only 800 x 480 pixels, making it a contender for the title of smartphone with the lowest pixel density. Other features include Android 4.1 Jelly bean, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, a 5-megapixel camera, a VGA front-facing one, 1GB of Ram, 8GB onboard storage and a 2,000mAh battery.

We would probably opt spend a little extra for the Samsung Galaxy S3 or embrace something totally different (like the LG Optimus 4X HD).
