Parallels Desktop 9 for Mac: Pre-order leak tips OS X Mavericks optimisation and hints at IFA launch

Virtualisation specialist Parallels appears to be ready to break cover with the next instalment of its flagship software product, Parallels Desktop 9.

Popular Apple blog 9to5Mac spied the new version of the award-winning programme on Amazon Germany, where a pre-order page had been sent live. According to the site, Parallels 9 will carry a €79.99 price tag (£68) and is expected to start shipping on 5 September.

It's a time frame that makes sense given that Parallels 8 was released on 4 September, 2012 - the product was officially launched at IFA - while Parallels 7 formally came into the public eye on 6 September, 2011.

The software was also apparently spotted in the wild on US online retailer MacMall, though both listings appear to have since been pulled.

Among other things, it's thought that Parallels 9 will come optimised for the latest version of Apple's desktop operating system, OS X 10.9 Mavericks, as well as offering compatibility with Microsoft's new kid on the block, Windows 8.1.

Parallels allows Mac users to boot virtual Windows environments within Apple's OS X platform and typically comes available in a special enterprise edition with features like multiple language compatibility, migration of proprietary apps across systems, and keyboard shortcut customisation.

Stay tuned for more - the ITProPortal team will be on the ground in Berlin for IFA 2013 soon, where we're hoping to get the full scoop on Parallels Desktop 9 and much more.
