Nvidia's youngest scion, the GeForce GTX 660 Ti, is based on the same GK104 'Kepler' chip as the GeForce GTX 680 introduced in March and the GeForce GTX 670 launched in May. You are probably familiar with the story of the GTX 680 by now. The GK104 was originally intended to be a mid-range card replacing the GeForce GTX 560, but it proved to be so fast that it surpassed AMD's top model, the Radeon HD 7970. Hence, Nvidia has decided to use the GK104 chip for its new flagship, the GTX 680. The GTX 670 introduced in May was a more affordable version of the GTX 680. Today the GTX 660 Ti follows, also built around the same GPU.
Since the GTX 660 Ti is based on the same GPU as its bigger siblings, the features are identical. Things like the SMX architecture, TXAA, Adaptive V-Sync, 3D Vision Surround and NVENC are all present. We won't cover those features in depth again, but instead refer you to our original GeForce GTX 680 review. On the following pages we will primarily focus on the differences between the GTX 680 Ti, the previous GK104 'Kepler' cards and the various GTX 660 Ti models from Asus, EVGA and MSI.
The GK104 GPU contains 1,536 shader units and a 256-bit memory bus. On the GTX 680 everything is enabled and active, with the GPU clocked at 1,006MHz, with a 1,058MHz boost clock.
