The fact that this Huawei Ascend P1 LTE handset is the cheapest 4G smartphone in the UK is an indication of how things are rather uncompetitive at the lower end of the market.
This is a £180 handset available from eBay with 180 Nectar points and free delivery. It is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 system-on-chip, clocked at 1.5GHz, likely to be the same as the Nokia Lumia 820 and the Sony Xperia V.
The device comes with 1GB of RAM, 4GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, a 2,000mAh battery, a 4.3in Super AMOLED display with a 960 x 540 pixel display, Gorilla Glass 2, an 8-megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash and Android 4.0 (upgradable to Jelly Bean).
If you don't want to fork out £180 in one go, then why not buy the device from T-Mobile (part of EE) for £10.50 per month. You will end up paying £252 but it will be staggered over a two year period and you will also get 50 minutes, 250 texts, 250MB data and Wi-Fi access on the London underground.
