Spotify has today launched Connect, a service that allows you to seamlessly stream music throughout the home or office on any device whether it be phone, tablet or speakers.
The new add-on means that all a user needs to do is select the option to play on speakers through the phone app when they walk into the front door, and any music that was playing though the phone will instantly switch to the speakers
Music throughout the home can then be controlled via other devices including an iPad and the music can be switched to play anywhere in the home, such as through an iPod docking station.
Spotify also says that the service won't drain your phone's battery and it also allows users to play a game or make a phone call without stopping the music being streamed.
The service will only be available for customers subscribed to the full premium service, as the company continues to push for more users to switch onto the highest subscription, which costs £9.99 a month.
It also serves as an extra innovation to compete with rival streaming services such as the recently launched Google Play music, which utilises the Google cloud to make a user's music library easily accessible on any device.
Connect is set to be compatible with a wide range of speakers by manufacturers including Argon, Bang & Olufsen, Denon, Philips, Pioneer, Revo and Yamaha, with further being added soon.
"Today, listening to music at home can be a frustrating experience – dropouts, below-par audio quality, signal range and phone restrictions, battery drainage, it's basically a hassle," says Sten Garmark, VP Product Management at Spotify.
"Spotify Connect solves this by giving you effortless control of your music across your phone, tablet and now speakers with millions of songs built right in."
Currently only available on iOS, the company said Connect will be available on Android soon.
