Adobe releases Generator, a new technology that allows real time image asset delivery

Adobe has announced the release of Adobe Generator, a new technology developed for Photoshop CC, which the company says will overhaul the way the software is used for web and screen design.

A new Photoshop CC feature built using the Generator technology delivers image assets in real-time, saving users the tasks of extracting, cropping, resizing and exporting, so streamlining the design process.

Additionally, new connectivity between Adobe Edge Reflow CC - a design tool focused on creating responsive web designs - and Photoshop, gives users the ability to take Photoshop assets directly into Edge Reflow with just one click.

"Today we're excited to usher in a new era of Photoshop productivity for anyone designing for the Web or mobile apps," said Winston Hendrickson, a vice president of products at Adobe.

"Now with Generator, customers can skip the hassles of slicing and exporting from Photoshop and speed up day-to-day web and mobile app production through an intelligent and customisable workflow."

Further updates enabled through the Generator technology include tagged layers and groups being automatically saved and updated in real-time as individual files; and it now being possible for layers to be exported as JPEG, GIF, or PNG files with a variety of sizes and options, including scaling for retina displays and varying levels of compression.

The Generator technology will also enable far greater collaboration between Photoshop CC, the Adobe Creative Cloud and third party applications.

Open source and running on an easy-to-use JavaScript API, the firm hopes that it will pave the way for third-party developers to easily create similar tools that integrate with the software.
