Deal: £492 Dell Inspiron 17R laptop with full HD display

The Dell Inspiron 17R laptop can be had from Dell for as little as £492 after a voucher code (VQDC6XQ02LRC1V) slashes the cost of the laptop by seven per cent.

The device is uncannily powerful for something that affordable. You get a third generation Intel Core i5-3337U processor clocked at up to 2.7GHz with 3MB cache and two cores, a 17.3in display with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution, 8GB of RAM, a 1TB hard disk drive, an AMD Radeon HD 8730M GPU with 2GB of RAM and Windows 8.

Other features include a brushed aluminium finish, a DVD writer, a dedicated numeric keypad, a HD webcam, Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100 Ethernet (rather than Gigabit), a 6-cell, 65Whr battery, four USB ports, HDMI, a card reader and a a thickness of up to 35.6mm as well as a weight of 2.73Kg.

It is a shame though that, other than Apple, no one in the PC market has yet to figure out how to cut down the thickness of 17in laptops to bring them in line with Ultrabooks. Removing the DVD writer as well as opting for mSSD might help to shrink large format laptops even further. For more, read our review of the Dell Inspiron 17R laptop here.
