WD launches new My Book external hard drive with fresh backup features

WD has launched the newest versions of the My Book external desktop hard drives for Mac and PC which can provide up to 4TB of storage and come with enhanced features to protect against loss of data.

The Windows hard drives are available in 2TB, 3TB and 4TB. For security, WD's SmartWare Pro automatic back-up software provides hardware encryption, password protection, Dropbox integration and other cloud backup capabilities.

The WD edition of Acronis True Image enables users to carry out a full system backup and securely delete digital files and programmes. It can also be used for disaster recovery in case of a fatal system crash, with the ability to recover the entire PC's data, including files, software and preferences.

Available in 2TB and 3TB capacities, My Book for Mac is compatible with Apple's Time Machine for safe and effective backup of files.

The Mac version is also equipped with WD Security software for password protection and hardware encryption to protect files from unauthorised access, and comes with WD Utilities, which allows users to register drives, run diagnostics, and more.

"The new generation of My Book external hard drives provides greater speed, flexibility, content safety, and system security for our customers," said Scott Steffens, general manager of WD's consumer storage products group.

"Consumers are creating, downloading, and storing more digital content than ever before and our line of desktop drives are equipped with capacities and security measures to keep it all backed-up and protected against system disaster, damage or theft."

Available now, the Windows version starts at £79 whilst the Mac version starts at £99.
