This has to be one of the cheapest quad-core smartphone we have come across and thanks to a £10 discount from Tesco (enter the code TDX-HF4X at check out), you can get the Archos 53 Platinum for a mere £139. Oddly enough, Tesco considers it to be a tablet rather than a smartphone.
With a display of 5.3in, it is indeed a big device, one that comes with a qHD resolution and IPS technology. Like many entry level smartphones and tablets, it runs on a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8225Q SoC clocked at 1.2GHz. This is based on the Cortex-A5, which means that it won't be as powerful as Cortex-A7 or A9 models.
Other features include 1GB of RAM, 4GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, a 8-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing one, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, support for two SIM cards. The competition includes the ZTE Blade V which can be had for less than £100, as well as the Kogan Agora 50, which has a display with a higher resolution but costs £20 extra.
