Online retailer Phones4U sells the HTC One Mini for a little as £26 per month. That's total cost of ownership of £624, which is around 80 per cent more than the SIM-Free cost of the smartphone by itself.
The deal, available on Orange's Panther package includes 200 minutes and 750MB data. Add an extra £70 and switch to EE to get unlimited minutes but less data (albeit on 4G). For £28.50 per month, Orange offers 600 minutes and 1GB of data allowance. All plans include unlimited texts and Phones4U also bundles three months free Wi-Fi to be used at over 12,000 hotspots and 4G customers also get a wireless Bluetooth speaker worth £120.
The device runs on a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 system-on-chip clocked at 1.4GHz with a 4.3in display (1,280 x 720 pixel resolution), 1GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a 4-megapixel Ultrapixel camera powered by a dedicated ImageChip 2 chip.
