The computer market is so competitive that sometimes manufacturers need to adjust their prices even before the product is launched. The Lenovo IdeaPad Z500 for example is on preorder at Amazon for just under £605 with a seven per cent discount. It is expected to be shipped next week.
The Chinese manufacturer claims that it is 25 per cent slimmer than a standard notebook and yet it is still a hefty 3.2Kg. But beneath its chassis lies some cracking components.
There's an Intel Core i7 processor clocked at 2.2GHz with four cores and 6MB L3 cache plus an Intel HD Graphics 4000 GPU, 6GB of RAM, 1TB hard disk drive, a DVD writer, Windows 8, an Nvidia GT635M GPU with 2GB of video RAM, a 35Whr battery and a 15.6in display with a 1,366 x 768 resolution.
Lenovo engineers also threw in a number of improvements like the Accutype Keyboard with a diamond-cut keypad, an "intelligent Touchpad", two speakers with Dolby Home Theater 4 technology, Lenovo Energy management 8.0, VGA/HDMI ports, three HDMI connectors, a Gigabit Ethernet port and an array of applications.
