Apple confirms 22 October event, new iPad and iPad Mini expected

The invites are out for Apple’s event on 22 October that is expected to herald the arrival of a new line of iPad devices.

Apple’s latest event, which has been rumoured for some time, takes place at San Francisco’s Yerba Buena Center for the Arts at 13:00 ET [18:00 BST] and is expected to see the announcement of the fifth generation iPad as well as the second version of the popular iPad Mini.

The colourful invite proudly states “We still have a lot to cover” with the devices expected to be revealed alongside a release date for the new MacBook Pros as well as news on the Mac Pro and OS X Mavericks.

Apple’s fifth version of the iPad has been speculated about for some time with the tablet PC set to come in the same three distinct colours – space grey, silver and gold – that the iPhone 5S is available in. The dimensions will be similar to the original iPad Mini with a slimmer form factor not meaning a loss of screen size.

It’s expected be the first time that Apple powers a tablet computer with one of its new A7 64-bit processor and an M7 coprocessor to handle a proportion of the workload.

The iPad Mini 2, on the other hand, is rumoured to be shipping with a retina display for the first time and is expected to come in the same three colours as the iPad 5. Inside the case there is also likely to be the same A7 processor and M7 coprocessor as its larger sibling.

Alongside the iPads it’s expected that Apple will launch a new version of Mac OS X entitled Mavericks as well as a release date for the new Macbook Pro range and more information on the Mac Pro.
