LinkedIn is putting its $90 million (£56 million) acquisition of Pulse to use with today's launch of new fully integrated web and mobile apps.
The cleverly renamed "LinkedIn Pulse" now serves as the main hub for social news across desktop and mobile devices, replacing LinkedIn Today.
Android and iOS users will be prompted to sign into the Pulse application with their LinkedIn ID and password, automatically syncing channels, influencers, and other LinkedIn content with the news reader.
Pulse readers will also be greeted by a refreshed user interface, which includes new social interactions like commenting, liking, and sharing — situated at the top of the screen for easy access from any bit of content.
"Pulse and LinkedIn technology have been fully integrated to offer a more relevant news experience with content tailored to your professional interests both on the Pulse app and on LinkedIn.com," Pulse co-creator Ankit Gupta wrote in a blog post.
Search functionality also got a boost with faster autocomplete suggestions, as well as a more accessible "What's New" trending screen. Those members who want to keep up with topics like green technology, real estate, or business can create personalised lists to stay on top of the latest professional news.
"This is just the first step of many we will be taking to ensure you're getting a consistent and seamless content experience that is tailored to you," Gupta said. "We believe news and information can help make every professional moment count — wherever you may be (even if it's standing in line for coffee)."
Pulse, available on mobile and the web, collects news items from more than 700 publishing partners, and serves up the most relevant content.
LinkedIn has also been in the news lately with the revelation that GCHQ used the site to plant surveillance malware on unsuspecting users.
