Nationwide Building Society has become the UK’s first bank to launch an innovative new digital wallet developed by Visa that will keep customers safer when shopping online.
The bank has teamed up with Visa Europe to offer its customers V.me by Visa in order to make it easier for its six-and-a-half million credit and debit card customers to shop online by integrating several cards into one wallet.
“We’re delighted that Nationwide has launched the UK’s first V.me by Visa wallet to its members. The wallet can already be used at over 1,400 online merchants, including household names like Curry’s and Clarks. By Christmas there will be more than 4,000 places where you can use V.me by Visa in the UK, and more across Europe,” said Steve Perry, chief commercial officer at Visa Europe.
V.me by Visa works by storing the details of various cards within the wallet and means that card details aren’t passed on to each individual merchant. Instead details are kept within the wallet thus reportedly making it a more secure experience for Nationwide customers.
“I’m excited that Nationwide is once again at the forefront of technological innovation by offering the V.me by Visa digital wallet, which will provide our members with a safe, secure and enhanced online shopping experience,” said Graham Beale, Nationwide chief executive.
Nationwide is digitally innovating its services across the board in order to improve customer experiences with Cisco Remote Expert technology implemented to help mortgages customers ‘meet’ a consultant over a video link.
Both Nationwide and Visa Europe will be hoping that the V.me by Visa partnership will help to take advantage of the upcoming Christmas shopping period where estimates state around £10 billion will be spent at online shops.
