Currys & PC World expect to shift one million tablets this Christmas as the company gears up for one of its busiest days of trading ever on Black Friday.
The UK electronics giant expects to sell enough tablets to total the same weight as 250,000 Christmas puddings with much of the demand driven by the new Apple iPad Air and Samsung Galaxy Tab 3, which it predicts will be the biggest sellers.
It has made the projections on the eve of its ‘The Big Christmas Event’ that encompasses Black Friday and Cyber Monday as well as the remainder of the feverish pre-Christmas trading period.
“Our warehouse, staff and drivers will all be working together to make sure customer service is fantastic over this busy period. Technology has become a wish-list favourite for 2013, and we’re expecting this to be especially evident over the busy festive season,” said Ben Lovett, spokesperson for Currys & PC World.
When it comes to online shoppers the company now sees 40 per cent of site traffic coming from mobile or tablet devices with the amount set to grow as tablets are sold in greater numbers this Christmas. Currys & PC World also reminds customers that they can claim £50 cashback on all Android tablet, iPads and Chromebooks over the next weekend up to and including 4 December.
Headphones are another product that is expected to sell well this festive season with Currys & PC World anticipating sales of 16 pairs per minute as well as small kitchen appliances showing an increase of 80 per cent year-on-year this festive season.
Tablets are already used by a third of the UK population with eMarketer estimating that 20 million people in the country use a tablet PC at least once a month with Apple’s iPad accounting for 59 per cent of the market.
