iPhone crowned technology’s most searched word 2013

Apple’s iPhone was the most searched for gadget in 2013 as Yahoo’s search rankings showed it outshined every Android smartphone out there.

Yahoo published its search rankings for 2013 late last week with the iPhone only outgunned by Royal Baby in the overall most searched terms with the only other technology entries in the overall top ten being Kindle and iPad in fourth and ninth place respectively.

When it came to purely tech searches the Kindle came out in second place with the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy devices ending up with third place as the Apple iPad was pushed into fourth position.

The battle for supremacy among the current-gen consoles, which were both released over the past fortnight, saw PlayStation 4 come in fifth place as the Xbox One had to make do with sixth.

BlackBerry landed in seventh place as Apple took another spot on the list with iPod in eighth with the top ten was rounded off by Nokia Lumia and Sony Xperia in ninth and 10th places respectively.

Yahoo released another two lists as part of the rankings with “Search Obsessions” also topped by Royal Baby and including Candy Crush Saga coming in at sixth position in amongst the likes of Gareth Bale, Breaking Bad, Twerking and Game of Thrones.

Yahoo also ranked the “Most Asked Questions” with ‘when do the clocks change?’ topping the list with ‘what is my IP address?’ in second and ‘how do I change my password?’ coming in third place.

Android still holds a substantial lead over iOS when it comes to the worldwide smartphone/tablet OS market with 81 per cent of the market according to figures released last month by IDC.

Windows Phone, meanwhile, has been making gains at almost ever turn with the las quarter seeing it record 156 per cent year-on-year growth as it cements its position as number three in the OS market.
