Samsung Semiconductor Europe has announced a partnership with the Wearable Technologies Innovation World Cup that sees the Samsung-owned subsidiary sponsor the event.
The wearables technology competition takes place during the Wearable Technologies Conference in Munich on 27 to 28 January 2014 and among the gongs being handed out is the renowned WT Innovator of the Year award.
“We are excited to have such a forward thinking company like Samsung on board. With their experience and knowledge in the wearable technologies market, Samsung will add an even greater value to the Wearable Technologies Innovation World Cup,” stated Christian Stammell, CEO and founder of Wearable Technologies.
Over 1,500 contestants have taken part in the competition since it was first held in 2009 and it is put together to “inspire and stimulate the next generation of wearable technologies.”

As a total component solutions provider, it is great to have the opportunity to enable and support more innovative products and technologies,” said Frank Koch, head of Strategic Business Development, Samsung Semiconductor Europe.
Awards are handed out across a number of categories split into four distinct sections that are sports & fitness, healthcare & wellness, security & prevention, and gaming & lifestyle.
There are also a number of special prizes handed out including the Evolve Insurance Award, Smart Clothing award, the blukii App 2.0 award, and Phone as a Wearable Hub award.
The overall winner as well as the WT Innovator of the Year gets a prize of $5,000 and any company that wins an award is automatically added to the Innovation World Cup Hall of Fame.
