DataSift has added Chinese social network giant Sina Weibo as a new source of data to its extensive service as it continues to grow internationally.
The social data-mining firm has added data from the service that has some 500 million users and the deal will allow DataSift customers to have a more informed picture on the Chinese market.
“China is a high growth and strategic market for many companies, and the ability to better understand Chinese market dynamics, audiences and segments is a strategic priority for many of our customers,” said Rob Bailey, CEO of DataSift. “With our leading social data platform, customers can now leverage Sina Weibo data to enable better strategy development, build custom analytics and drive improved operational execution based on real time market data.”
Data from Sina Weibo will be available through the Socialgist section of the DataSift platform with subscribing customers able to take full advantage of the platform. It lets customers analyse and filter Sina Weibo data, analyse sentiment in Chinese language conversations and utilise link augmentation and additional enrichments, as well as plenty of other data analysis options.
“Weibo is now a required source for anyone who studies social media in today’s global economy. The introduction of Sina Weibo to DataSift’s leading social data platform creates new opportunities for global brands looking to invest in better understanding consumers around the world,” stated Darren Kelly, president of Socialgist.
Datasift also offers its clients the chance to analyse data from various other social sources such as Twitter, Facebook, Tumble, Instagram, Wordpress and bitly, and is one of the few that has access to Twitter’s fire-hose of information.
Global expansion has been on the cards ever since it secured an additional $42 million of funding via a Series C round that was completed at the start of December.
