Mobile gaming isn't just about new experiences, it's an opportunity to revisit classics in a different context. Such is the case with Baldur's Gate II, which just arrived in the App Store. Like the original Baldur's Gate iPad remake, this game has been crafted especially for the iPad with updated graphics, touch-friendly controls, and a ton of content.
The enhanced edition of Baldur's Gate II on iPad includes the original Shadow of Amn campaign, but also every expansion that was ever released. That means you get Throne of Bhaal, Fist of the Fallen, Unbound, A Shadow's Life, In Defense of the Wild, The Black Pits II, and Gallery of Heroes II. We're talking about dozens of hours of gameplay here.
For the uninitiated, Baldur's Gate II is a top-down isometric role-playing game that was one of the best of its day. You guide your character around, completing quests, gathering a party, and improving your skills. With the enhanced edition, you can experience all the great storylines too. Baldur's Gate II is based on the Dungeons and Dragons II role-playing rules, but it plays out in real time.
The visuals haven't been completely revamped, but the game has been cleaned up using the original source artwork. This version has also been tweaked to include an easy multiplayer matchmaking system so you can find and join games from behind a firewall.
Baldur's Gate II is a bit spendy at $14.99 (about a tenner), but it will keep you busy for a long time. If you're a fan of RPGs, it's worth diving into this amazing world on the iPad.
