HTC’s next flagship smartphone, the follow-up to the HTC One – which is generally referred to as the HTC M8, although other names have been used – has had a photo leaked online (which you can see above).
This one is apparently a press image, although it comes from one of the more reliable sources of pic leaks, namely @evleaks (as NDTV Gadgets reported).
The tweet which accompanied the spilled image simply said: “HTC M8, protected.”
That refers to the fact that the handset is protected in a case, which obviously rather obscures the thinness and hopefully slick lines of the real chassis.
The pic also shows two speaker grilles on the front, as expected, and apparently the new HTC Sense 6.0 interface, which is overlaid on top of Android 4.4 KitKat on this handset.
This phone is a major launch for HTC, and as we reported earlier today, it’s going to be unveiled at two simultaneous events in New York and London on 25 March. Rumour has it that the 5in handset will boast a 1080p display, a 2.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon CPU and 3GB of RAM, which should see it flying along.
While this is a premium model, struggling HTC will actually be looking to cream off more profits from the mid and lower-end of the Android market in the future.
Peter Chou, HTC’s CEO, recently talked about “building a compelling mid-range portfolio” following the company’s disappointing financial results.
