Samsung’s Galaxy S5 is already over twice as popular as its predecessor with the Carphone Warehouse inundated with pre-registrations in the first three days following its unveiling at MWC 2014.
The mobile phone retailer reported that 130 per cent more customers have pre-registered for information on the Galaxy S5 in its first three days than over the first 10 days of when the retailer offered a similar service for the Galaxy S4.
“If these early pre-registration figures are anything to go by then customer interest is extremely high. Samsung has clearly built up a very loyal fanbase and the Galaxy S5 looks set to become one of the biggest selling handsets ever. By introducing mobile payments, health and wellness functions and a host of other useful features, Samsung has created a device that will synchronise seamlessly across all aspects of a consumer’s life,” said Carl Cowling, MD at Carphone Warehouse.
Samsung unveiled the new smartphone at the MWC 2014 conference in Barcelona last month, replacing the Galaxy S4 with a much more powerful handset despite the older model being less than a year old.
The Galaxy S5 has a 5.1in Super AMOLED screen with a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and one of the main new features of the device is a powerful 16-megapixel camera as well as a number of other new additions including a heart rate monitor and a fingerprint scanner.
It is powered by a 2.5GHz quad-core processor that benefits from 2GB of RAM and depending on the model there will be 16GB or 32GB of onboard storage that can be expanded to 128GB using the microSD card.
Customers that pre-registered with Carphone Warehouse will be among the first to lay hands on the device when it hits the UK shelves on 11 April in a variety of colours including Charcoal Black, Shimmery White, Electric Blue and Copper Gold.
