The sequel to Samsung’s Galaxy Camera is now available in the UK, and you can grab one online from Currys right now.
Currys has the Galaxy Camera 2 up with a £400 price tag, and other online and bricks-and-mortar retailers will follow, stocking the camera in a fortnight (John Lewis is the only one mentioned in Samsung’s press release, though).
The price point is identical to the amount that the original Galaxy Camera retailed for, and as always, you can pick up the old model for quite a bit less; £250 now, in fact.
The Galaxy Camera 2 features a faster 1.6GHz quad-core CPU, 8GB of internal storage (of which 2.8GB is usable – but of course, you have a microSD slot), and Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board.
In terms of its photographic capabilities, the camera boasts a 21x optical zoom, 23mm wide angle lens, and 16.3-megapixel BSI CMOS Sensor, with rich, vivid and sharp images promised. Like its predecessor, it has a 4.8in display on the rear.
As we noted in our preview piece on the Galaxy Camera 2, this is a reasonably modest upgrade on the original, so that £250 price tag on the first Galaxy Camera looks more tempting in that light.
Simon Stanford, VP of the IT & Mobile Division at Samsung UK & Ireland, commented: “We’re excited to introduce the Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 to the UK market, offering our customers the chance to experience a premium device that has best-in-class image quality with the ease-of-use and speed of an Android platform. Perfect for taking incredible images and sharing them quickly, we hope the Galaxy Camera 2 will help our customers stay stylish and connected at all times, wherever they are.”
