Sony Xperia Z2 smartphone up for pre-order at Phones 4u, due 11 April

Phones 4u now has the Sony Xperia Z2 available for pre-order, with a bundle of extra goodies thrown in.

The bad news is that the current contracts on offer aren’t cheap, and if you want a free Xperia Z2, you’ll have to stump up £47 per month. That’s a 4G contract from Vodafone, mind, with unlimited calls and texts, and 3GB of data.

Alternatively, EE is offering a £43 per month 4G contract with a £99 up-front payment, and unlimited calls and texts plus 4GB of data. That works out at about the same cost as the Voda deal, but with more data.

And the extras? They consist of a Sony SRS-BTX300 wireless speaker (worth £119), along with various bits of Sony content (games, music and movies). Those who pre-order a 4G tariff will also be rewarded with a £50 voucher for Google Play on top of this.

As we reported earlier this week, several other online retailers already have the Z2 on pre-order, with Unlocked Mobiles offering a similar bundle of kit with the handset (including an SRS-BTM8 speaker and digital noise cancelling headphones).

While Unlocked Mobiles has the Xperia Z2’s release date down as 1 April, Phones 4u has the delivery date as 11 April, which seems a more likely – and interesting – release date to us.

Why is it interesting? Because 11 April is when a certain Samsung Galaxy S5 lands in the UK, so if this pans out, that day will witness a head-to-head battle of the Android heavyweights.
